BACKGROUND

Since 2006, the United States (U. S.) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has funded UT-Battelle at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to establish a regional pilot project to develop regional systems and solutions to address homeland security issues that can have national implications. The project is called the Southeast Regional Research Initiative (SERRI) and has been established to develop and demonstrate the homeland security benefits of leveraging homeland security-related research, operational and economic development capabilities in the southeast region of the United States. read more ...

SERRI RESEARCH INTERESTS

SERRI research interests are developed based on the requirements of DHS. These requirements typically call for basic and transformational research which enhances preparedness, response, recovery, and community resilience for natural and man-made disasters. read more ...

DMARK RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

In many communities, when a disaster strikes, post-disaster data collection is often accomplished by assessment teams from a variety of community agencies. It is not uncommon for the teams to have little or no training and to collect data in hardcopy format. read more ...

DMARK TASKS

The goal of the research is the development of a prototype disaster mitigation and response kit (DMARK). The APSU GIS Center and ORNL shall develop the prototype kit to support emergency management and homeland security responders and practitioners. Among the research milestones, the research PIs (APSU and ORNL) shall demonstrate, brief and report the results of the product resulting from this research. The PIs shall also consult with appropriate practitioners and researchers to ensure the products of this research are practical in their environments. The final deliverable of this research will be a final report documenting the activities, needs assessments, requirements, technical capabilities, findings, lessons learned, and recommendations emerging from this research effort.

APSU GIS

Founded in 1998, the goal Austin Peay State University GIS Center was to establish and operate an Enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) offering high tech digital data solutions at low cost. read more ...
